BEESTON CARNIVAL 13th July 2013

As in previous years the Rotary Club of Beeston made its presence felt by organising a Fast Food stall at the Beeston Carnival at Broadgate Park, Beeston.  On sale were freshly cooked beef burgers and hot dogs plus pancakes pre-prepared by Rotarians wives.  Club members were kept busy from 10am until 4pm and the profit of 275 from selling some 300 meals was donated to the Nottingham University Hospital Trust Charity.  The charity's fundraiser, Lizzie Wright received the donation when she visited the club on Monday 12th August.

The club also took advantage of the large numbers of people attending the carnival to provide the public with the opportunity to have their Blood Pressure taken and receive advice should the medical staff consider that they were at risk.  This was done in private, in one of the mobile classrooms normally used by Rotary for "Life Education sessions at schools in the District.  In fact, the team took blood pressure readings of 120 members of the public - of which seven were advised to give the result to their GP when they next paid a visit and one person was advised to see their GP as soon as possible.

In previous years, when the club has offered this service at least one member of the public has made a point of coming to thank the Club for "saving their life" and this year was no exception.  It is this sort of response that makes Rotary's motto, "Service above Self", worthwhile.
