The President introduced Leslie and Peter Green the founders of CLIMB (Children Living with Inherited Metabolic Diseases).
Peter Green began by explaining the origins of the Charity when in 1980 their daughter Jennifer was diagnosed with a metabolic disease about which it they were told nothing could be done.
Peter and Leslie carried out much research on the subject and eventually found that an American drug, originally produced as an antidote to radiation sickness, was being used to alleviate symptoms.
They subsequently persuaded the Birmingham Childrens Hospital in 1981 to import and use the drug. In 1985 in Washington they met one of the world's experts on the production of drugs and persuaded him to research and produce a drug specifically for metabolic diseases.
Leslie Green then went on to explain the aims of CLIMB (the name of their charity since 1998).which are to support families with children affected by metabolic diseases, particularly with information. To this end in 1981 they started producing a Newsletter which is now a magazine type publication and is distributed internationally.
CLIMB is also responsible for raising considerable sums of money for research into metabolic diseases and organises conferences nationally and internationally to bring together expertise on the subject.
The headquarters of CLIMB are on Nantwich Road , Crewe.
