President's Charity 2017/18

President Mike has selected the Lutterworth Museum as his chosen charity for his year of office.

There are so many deserving causes be they international, national or local, it is difficult to place one charity above another. Invariably involvement with a particular charity ultimately defines where the support is focused, and with myself this is Lutterworth Museum.

Originally founded by Geoff Smith’s father, Geoff has continued the development, of the Museum, to the point where they are currently applying for accreditation.  The Museum is reliant on donations made and, as a result, has limited storage and exhibition space. Accreditation could open up a number of funding opportunities and allow further development of the Museum.

I proposed this charity because should funding not be forthcoming and should donations fall, we could see this local historical record disappear altogether. No more will there be somewhere that you can view one of the most complete collections of Sir Frank Whittle artefacts, or information on John Wycliffe or indeed a photographic record of old Lutterworth – it will be lost forever.

I see it as our obligation to future generations that this record is maintained and preserved for the future.
