Cairncoss Award presented to Mrs. Jennifer Dixon, Community Care Group, Dunkeld

Jean Dickson.

Mrs. Dickson is a retired schoolteacher.

Born in Glasgow but lived most of her life in Fife and Perthshire

Over the past 21 years she has devoted her time, considerable organization skills and determined enthusiasm to the creation of a community care project in Dunkeld, Birnam and surrounding area.     As a volunteer she started this project from nothing, but with the assistance of Margaret Gray, the local community, churches, and the local medical practice she has built an organization which makes a real difference to the life of people who may be in need of community support.

The project is The Community Care Group and targets people within the community who live alone or are isolated, or couples who are vulnerable and may be struggling and residents of Servite Housing..

The Group operates a Lunch Club and provides a two course lunch with cake, coffee or tea once a fortnight on a Tuesday, and a Meeting Place/ coffee morning every Friday with home baking.

Some  40 to 50 people benefit from all this effort.

To deliver all this to the community Jean Dickson has recruited and organized volunteers into three teams of ten people (mainly local ladies) each with a team leader answering to Jean.   Each team, in turn, provides for the Lunch Club the food, the cooks and servers at the Duchess Ann Hall in Dunkeld.  Another three teams provide the coffee morning with home baking every Friday. In addition there is a volunteer
