Parliament and its workngs

President Alan opened the meeting by welcoming the members and their guests and then invited Gordon Mackie to introduce the evening’s speaker.

An honorary member of the club Guto Bebb is the M.P. for Aberconwy,  first elected in 2010. His visit coincided with the 3 week parliamentary recess set aside for the Parliamentary Conference season and creating a good time for M.P.s constituency work.

He covered many topics including the down side to the more humane working hours in the House of Commons, which has led to less rigorous scrutiny of legislation. The excellent outcomes developed by the all -party select committees, often ignored by partisan government and, in relation to Welsh devolution, why do the general welsh public find it difficult to decide what is or not devolved to the Assembly?.

The vote of thanks was given by David Thomas
