The guided tour of Knightor will begin at 7pm. It will be regarded as a ladies Night and so apologies will be required from Rotary members and their partners. Please give your apologies to Neil Hugo by Monday 15th June.
The cost for the tour, tasting and buffet will be £18 per head.
The evening starts with a tour through the display vines, with discussion of the grape varieties grown in this country and in other regions around the world. Tips will also be given on how to grow your own and you will be able to gain a real insight into how wine is made through this guided tour with the winemaker. An in-depth look at everything that goes into making wine will be followed by an informal, tutored tasting of the Knightor wines. This will be a great opportunity for you to ask any questions that you may have on vine-growing, winemaking and how best to understand, choose and enjoy wine!
Wine is all about place and Knightor's is the south coast of Cornwall. The name Knightor evolved from 'Crgh Tyr', meaning wrinkled land. With vineyards at Portscatho in the Roseland and at Seaton in Whitsand Bay, the Knightor winery in St Austell Bay makes limited production premium quality still and sparkling wines. They take a relatively hands-off approach to winemaking and, although inspiration is derived from both the old and new worlds, they have no desire to mimic.
With English wine, the difference is generally lightness and elegance of style, which is Knightour's hallmark. The marginal climate in Cornwall gives low grape yields, which maximizes taste, but increases cost. Consequently, Knightor only makes still and sparkling rose and white wines, which are true to the fruit and retain an elegance that is part of the inherent character of English wine.
