Proposals 2015- 2016
The Youth Services Committee will attempt to involve as many young people as possible in Rotary through the following events and activities:
1. Young Chef
The Club Round will be held at WHS on Thursday 14th January in room 24 (lower school site) and will involve the Home Economics Department of WHS.
2. Young Musician
The Club/Area round will be held at WHS in the Dutch Barn on Thursday 7thJanuary 2016.
3. Youth Speaks –Junior and Senior
The Club Round to involve the English Department of Whitchurch High School.
Junior Competition* will be held on Tuesday 17th Jan. 2016 - 7pm in the Library Lower School site at Whitchurch High School.
Senior Competition will be held on Thursday 26th Jan. 2016 - 7pm In Library Upper School Site at Whitchurch High School.
4. Young Interviewer
Discussions ongoing at District to determine whether this competition will run in 2016, and whether a single Round (District) competition only will be held. Provisional dates:
If Single District round: Friday March 11th 2016 Howells School.
If Club/Area + District round: Thurs. Feb. 18th + Fri. March 11th.2016
5. Fitzalan feeder schools – Essay Competition
Organised in co-operation with Llanishen/Cardiff Bay Rotary Clubs. Open to all final year students of the nine feeder schools.
Ongoing September to April. Prizes/Presentations March/April 2016.
*After last year’s failure to get a staff member to help with
this event further discussion needed with WHS to determine
availability of staff Member to assist with competition in 2016
6. RYLA –Rotary Youth Leadership Award
Club to financially support 3 places, one each for Howells, WHS and Cathedral schools. Schools to be encouraged to send other pupils at their own expense.
7. Interact
Continue to support and promote Howells, Whitchurch, and Cathedral School Interact Clubs by involving them in our Club activitiesand involving ourselves in theirs. Promote and support the Cardiff & Vale Interact Group via providing links and Chairing two Group meetings per annum in different schools.
Interactors are welcome at any breakfast meeting but three meetings will be specifically planned as “Interact”breakfasts to which Interactors/staff from WHS, Howells, and Cathedral will be invited

Wednesday 23rd September 2015 – RYLA report back
Wednesday 9th December 2015 – Christmas Breakfast
Wednesday 4th May 2016 – Paul Spencer Awards
Award annually the Paul Spencer Memorial Award for the individual who has contributed most in the appropriate year to the success of the Interact Clubs at Howells/ Whitchurch / Cathedral Schools.
8. Whitchurch Junior school
Award two prizes annually at the leaving assembly to year 6 pupils for “the most improved” and “the best” pupils.
9. WHS Badge Scheme
RCCB to support Badge Identification Scheme liaising with Design Technology Department of Whitchurch High School in May/June and attending prize giving assembly at WHS. in Sept.2015.
10. RotaKids
Progress the new RotaKids group established at Whitchurch Primary School. Club to be set up & Chartered in summer term 2015 covering the 90 pupil three form Year 6. Club to commence operation at the start of the new school year in September2015.
First charity project will be “School in a Bag”. Plan is to raise enough money for 90 Bags (one per Rotokid) & for the group to pack the bags & monitor their distribution over the Internet.
11. Fund Raising
Youth Services committee will front/organise (with Club help) three main fundraising events:
Sparks in the Park Saturday 7th Nov. 2015 ( TBC)
C&VY Orchestra Concert April 2015 ( TBC With Orchestra )
N.B : At this stage all dates are “planned dates” subject to confirmation with Schools & possible clashes with other planned RCCB events
