This award is always an occasion to remember the Rotary motto Service above Self
Jimmy Cairncross was a member of the Rotary Club of Perth for long time and he presented the trophy be awarded to recognise outstanding service.
History of trophy dates back to 1983. Originally clubs were recognised but individuals in recent times.
On behalf of the Club I am delighted to be able to introduce this year’s winner with us today, namely Tom Lowdon. Or should properly be Doctor, but he prefers Tom
Tom originally hails from Dundee and was a secondary school maths teacher who arrived in in 1970 to teach initially at St Columbas and then Perth High before returning to a post at in Dundee, all the while residing in and immersing himself into local life. So much so that Tom and his wife Margaret promoted the delights of by opening their guest house at Pitcullen Terrace.
Now retired from teaching Tom serves on the Comte of Beautiful Perth but more importantly he is recognised as a very active hard working member of the ground force team, out in all weathers putting in very many hours of hard graft in making our City look at its best for our residents and visitors. Indeed it was this ‘open all hours’ hard work approach by Tom on the plots and floral displays at Bridgend, area, Rodney and along which brought Tom to the attention of some of our members in making this award.
Tom is quite unassuming, recognising that you are only part of a very dedicated team within Beautiful Perth, but it is our great pleasure to honour you with this award with trophy and cheque for £250
President Alistair Dorward presented the trophy along with the cheque for £250
