Mr Speirs spoke to the Club on the work undertaken by the Trust "to transform lives in India"
President Jane Allan opened tonight's meeting of the Rotary Club of Motherwell and Wishaw by welcoming, then inducting, our new member Peter McCrossan into the club. Peter, who is married with five children, manages Podiatry Services for NHS Lanarkshire as well as looking after the feet of the Motherwell FC footballers.
Our guest speaker was John Spiers, who, for over forty years, has been associated with the Glo Centre in Motherwell. John is the UK Ambassador for the charity Christian Missions Charitable Trust (CMCT) and had, recently, returned from Chennai, in India, where CMCT is based. The charity was set up by New Zealander Coleen Redit in 1967 in a garage in Chennai coaching girls in crafts and other activities. The charity’s mission statement is “where there is no vision people perish". Today more than 400 people work in the CMCT buildings which now has a hospital, an orphanage for 150 children, a shelter for woman, an industrial training institution for men and an artisan training centre for women. There is also a school for 1350 children. John informed members that examples of the articles, made by the women, are on sale in the Glo Centre in Motherwell.
