Message from President Doug Camp
I am very pleased to be President of The Rotary Club of Mumbles in 2017, which marks one hundred years of Rotary in Wales. Our Club was formed in 1970 when I was, reluctantly, preparing to leave my beloved Mumbles. I had been actively involved in supporting the community which, of course, included our own Mumbles Lifeboat. Little did I know that I would be away for some twenty years. During that time, I was still very involved in Mumbles and, in fact, my friends asked if I still lived here!
I finally returned, continued helping the community and joined the Rotary movement. Since a good friend asked me to join Rotary, I have made many more friends. We meet regularly and through our friendship we support local charities including Mumbles and Gower Stroke Club, Friends of Stepping Stones, Ty Olwen, Forget-me-Not and, of course, Mumbles Lifeboat.
Internationally, Rotary has been working to eradicate polio throughout the world. Since 1988 we have seen a 99.9% reduction in cases and there are now only a very small handful of new cases each year compared to the many thousands a few years ago. We have almost reached our goal!
We are lucky to live in such a lovely place but we need your help if Mumbles Rotary Club is to continue its good work. We meet on Monday evenings at Norton House Hotel so why not join us and enjoy good company, friendship and fun whilst supporting worthy causes? Ring our secretary, Phil Rogers, on 01792 360430 he's waiting for your call!
Thank you to everyone in Mumbles and the surrounding community for your continued support.
