Dinner - Speaker

Thu, Aug 4th 2016 at 12:55 pm - 2:00 pm

On Thursday 4th August  President Brian Johnson  welcomed 18 Rotarians to the lunchtime meeting at Gilvenbank Hotel.

Tracy Thomson announced that our fundraising Ladies Day will take place on Sunday 30th October at Balgeddie House Hotel . Tickets cost £30 a head and will be on sale shortly.

President Brian advised that the Past President's dinner will be on Wednesday 12th October at 43 Main Street , Milton of Balgonie.

Today our guests were Doreen Miller and Josephine Mitchell from Glenrothes hospital who updated members on plans to renovate the sensory garden in the grounds . The Rotary Club of Glenrothes sponsored the original garden and it is hoped that we shall be closely involved in this new project .

Doreen explained that criteria for the care of dementia patients are regulated by both a Fife wide group and a more local group . The environment has to be safe and  at the same time therapeutic and for this reason the local group decided to upgrade the garden area to match modern requirements . At present there are uneven surfaces, lack of seating and poor accessibility for less mobile people.

The hospital recently commissioned a design from M-Squared and applied for Lottery funding , without success. Plans are now in place to augment their endowment fund through a variety of fundraising events.

The new gardens will provide a low maintenance , safe and restful environment with seating, a covered area, raised beds as well as a water feature , bird feeders and classic scented plants to evoke memories.

Our club is looking forward to actively supporting this worthwhile project to enhance a facility which has such an important role to play in our community.

Next week the speaker will be District Governor Roddy Duncan .  Peter May,Ewen McDonald and Tricia Marwick are on reception.
