Dinner - Ron Page giving 1st Vocational

On Thursday 24th November 2016, President Brian Johnson returned to the chair as he welcomed 21 Rotarians and two guests, Rotarian Brian Tomlinson from the Rotary club of Kirkcaldy and Jinder wife of Rotarian Krishna to this lunch time meeting held at the Gilvenbank Hotel.

On reception, this week was Ewen Macdonald and Peter May. Brian Tomlinson said grace

Our speaker this week was New member Ron Page who was giving his first vocational. Ron who is Chairperson for the North Glenrothes Community Council and involved with the children’s panel is a retired head teacher having covered posts in Buckhaven, Inverness, Waid and Arbroath schools. Originally a History teacher he loved music and played the Piano Accordian and is involved with the Glenrothes Choral society. He is also a qualified teacher in RE.

The Young Chef of the year competition took place last Thursday 24th Nov 2016 at Glenwood High School. Congratulations to our Rotary Young Chef Jaan Yilmaz from Auchmuty High School for the amazing 3 course meal he produced for the competition. Well done also to runner up Charley McGuire from Glenwood HS and 3rd place winner Derry Creaney from Auchmuty HS.Also well done to the other contestants Erin Morrison Glenwood HS, Kerrie Walker Glenwood HS and Finlay Hutchison Auchmuty HS, who made it difficult for the judges to choose winners as they were all brilliant. Thanks also our 2 judges Shona Laing and Bob Rae for giving up their time to judge the competition and thanks to HE teacher Heather Nisbet and Glenwood HS for hosting this excellent event. A special mention to last year’s winner Grant Duffus who presented the trophy to Jaan. thanks also to Rotary members who supported and organised the event.

Fundraising Chair Iain Haywood confirmed that the Santa Collection will take place at ASDA this coming weekend of 3rd and 4th December 2016.

 

Tracy Thomson advised that the Christmas Fayre will take place at the Markinch Parish Church Hall on Saturday 10th December 2016. Tickets costing £3 for adults free for children with Tea and coffee and cakes provided and a Hamper prize for the winning entry ticket.

 

Geoff Sampson advised that the annual High 5.s Gavel competition would be taking place at Kirkcaldy High School with the Rotary Clubs of Kirkcaldy and Glenrothes participating along with Kirkcaldy and Glenrothes High Interactors on Thursday 15th December 2016 commencing at 6.30pm

 

The senior Citizens Christmas party will be taking place at Auchmuty High School on 16th December 2016.

The speaker this week Thursday 1st December will be Linda Ballingall, founder and chair of the Glenrothes Heritage Centre, The Rotary Vote of thanks will be given by Geoff Sampson.

On reception, this week Thursday 1st December will be Lindsay Roy and Peter May with the meeting being held at the Gilvenbank Hotel. please meet at 12.45pm for 12.55pm.

Friends of Rotary is being promoted for those who would like to be involved in assisting in the community and internationally but have limited time and possibly can only commit on a part time basis.
