Dinner = David Lyth - update on the Murumbika Ugandan Project

Thu, Feb 9th 2017 at 12:55 pm - 2:00 pm

On Thursday 9th February 2017, President Brian Johnson welcomed 20 club Rotarians and speaker David Lyth to this lunch time meeting held at the Gilvenbank Hotel.

Five apologies for absence were received.

On reception, this week were Jim Boyd who said grace and Peter May.

President Brian Johnson and SVP Lindsay Roy brought back greetings from the area 8 meeting which they had attended last week. He also advised that a Youth exchange was being planned for 12 people from Europe in July and that the organisers were looking for host families. He also mentioned that the intended evening meeting on the 23rd February had been changed to a lunch time meeting due to a Competition being run on that night

Iain Haywood once again mentioned the Sportsman’s dinner on the 24th March 2017 and the need for good auction and raffle prizes.

Chris Grist advised that the Local Young Musician Competition had been held at Glenrothes High School last Tuesday evening with the judges selecting Connor Pratt from Auchmuty High School on bagpipes as the winner of the Instrumental section and Michael McLean from Glenwood High School winner of the vocal section.

Our speaker this week was Rotarian David Lyth from the Rotary Club of Dunfermline. David had given us a talk last year on the possibility of our club in conjunction with other local Rotary Club’s financing a project in Burumbika Uganda to build a health centre. We decided to participate in this project and David had come back to update us advising us that all was going well but unfortunately the project had run short of funding and he was looking for some additional funding in order to finish this off.

The Rotary vote of thanks was given by Lindsay Roy.

On reception, this week Thursday 16th February 2017 will be Lars Christiansen and Peter May. This week is a lunch time meeting to be held at the Gilvenbank Hotel. please meet by 12.45pm for a 12.55pm start. This week is a business meeting where members will receive updates from the Council Chairs on how their projects are progressing.
