On Thursday 9th March 2017, in the absence of President Brian Johnson, Senior Vice President Lindsay Roy took the chair as he welcomed 20 club Rotarians and 6 guests, Tracy Darmudas and 5 Interactors from Glenrothes High School to this lunch time meeting held at the Gilvenbank Hotel.

Four apologies for absence were received.

On reception, this week were Gerald Cameron who said grace and Wilna Roger.

Jim Boyd brought back greetings from the Rotary Club of Kirkcaldy whom he had visited last week.

Tracy Thomson advised that 260 Shoeboxes had been taken up to Perth by Rotarians today for onward transmission to Eastern Europe. Many thanks to all the people and organisations who contributed towards this fantastic number of boxes filled.

Anne Sampson advised that the Young Photographer of the year competition 2017 judging will take place at the Gilvenbank hotel this Wednesday 15th March 2017.

Jim Boyd thanked all those Rotarians who had assisted in the running of the “Top of the Form” quiz on Wednesday 8th March. The Quiz took place at Auchmuty High School with 10 teams from all over Fife participating. Our 3 local Glenrothes High schools, plus St leonards, Waid, Madras, Levenmouth, St Andrews, Beath and Dunfermline. The eventual winners were Waid Academy with St Leonards runners up and only 4 points separating the top three teams with Dunfermline third. The Trophy was presented to the Waid team by Deputy Lord Provost for Fife Kay Morrison. Well done to organiser Jim Boyd and the Vocational Chair Murray Grubb and the other 13 Rotarians who turned up to support this successful annual event. Many thanks to Auchmuty High School once again for hosting the event.

Our speakers this week, where they gave a great presentation were 5 of the interactors from Glenrothes High School, Rachel Gray-Brown, Elika Ostrov, Amber Singh, Abbie Cunningham, and Abbie Braid telling us about all the fund-raising projects they have and will be involved in within the community. One of the early events was to assist the Rotarians in their Santa collection outside ASDA just before Christmas. They visited Prestonhall elderly home and they also delivered Christmas hampers to the local community. On a couple of occasions, they collected and donated food to the Foodbank. They partnered up with Specsavers to work with them on their vision overseas project and collected 736 pairs of glasses. They raised money for an International project to raise money for the Charity Midwifes for Haiti who train nurses to be skilled birth attendants to help pregnant women in Haiti. They also collected handbags which were filled with sanitary and hygiene products for homeless women in need. We should all be proud of these young people and what they have achieved. Well done to the girls and thanks to their teacher Tracy Darmudas and also Rotarian Wilna Roger for her work with the girls.

The Rotary vote of thanks was given by Sheila Matthews.
