On Thursday 23rd March in the absence of President Brian Johnson, Senior Vice President Lindsay Roy welcomed 21 Rotarians to the lunch time meeting at Gilvenbank Hotel.
Three apologies for absence were received.
Before lunch Vice President Lindsay payed tribute to those affected by the terrorist attack in London on Wednesday and members stood for a few moments of silence and reflection.
Ticket sales for the annual Sportsman’s dinner on Friday 24th March have gone extremely well and Lindsay thanked committee chairman Iain Haywood for the effort put into the organisation of such an event,
The speaker today was well known local figure Linda Ballingall, co-founder of the Glenrothes Heritage Centre. Linda recapped on her early career with the GDC, with the hugely successful Tourist Information Centre in the Rothes Halls. After the GDC was wound up in 1996 hundreds of documents, photos and artefacts relating to the inception of the town were put into storage and remained so for several years.
Eventually after many struggles and setbacks, not least with the huge problem of funding, the Heritage Centre as we know it today opened its doors in 2013. More than 37,000 visitors have now been able to learn about the origins of the town through the many exhibitions and events in the centre.
Linda is now looking ahead and is keen to offer young people the opportunity to learn about archiving, exhibition and display skills etc. so that the future of the centre is secure.
On reception, this week Thursday 30th March 2017 which is an evening meeting to be held at the Gilvenbank Hotel. please meet 6pm for starting at 6.30 pm will be Iain Haywood and Peter May, when the speaker will be Sheriff Fletcher whose talk is entitled. " Human Rights -- Do We Need Them?”.
