On Thursday 13th April President Brian Johnson welcomed 21 Club Rotarians and speaker Bob Garmory to this lunch time meeting held at Gilvenbank Hotel.
Three apologies for absence were received.
This week we were given a very humourous and enlightening talk on the Glenrothes Airport by Bob Garmory a director of Dunfermline Athletic FC and The Purves Group who own the Glenrothes Airport which is one of Scotland’s most popular general aviation airfields. They are ideally located for visitors to Scotland, being close to the country’s capital yet with masses of uncontrolled airspace and breath-taking scenery being a short flight away. Tayside Aviation, has one of the UK’s leading flying schools, and have an operating base at the airfield providing flight training for those wishing to learn to fly light aircraft and flight experience gift vouchers for a taster of flight or special occasion.
Fife Airport is also home to Skydive St Andrews who run tandem parachuting jump experiences or training to those wishing to learn to sky dive, make a jump for charity or purely for the thrill. Fife Flying Club are also based at the airfield, and promote aviation to the local community and run regular events in partnership with Tayside Aviation. To augment the running of the airport, Supercars events are held on the airport with the airport being closed to all Aircraft and Helicopters those days. The east end of the airport is used for private flying with 4 hangers holding some 20 private planes and at the west end is taken up with businesses in the main the palletised Distribution company (Pallet Line) with their being no other pallet company in Fife they have the contract with Amazon.
The Rotary vote of thanks was given by Lindsay Roy.
