30 members plus 25 guests, (including Fiona and her husband from Reminiscence Learning plus “Archie”), met at The Boathouse, Riverside, Taunton, in the late evening sunshine. Most were happy to mingle outdoors, but seating was available indoors (nearer the bar). A delicious BBQ had been prepared by Colin and his team, and after the empty dishes had been cleared from the tables, a fresh team of waiters brought bowls of strawberries and cream.
As the light began to fade, a blast of music heralded our 3 waiters transformed with radio microphones, who proceeded to serenade us.
Audience participation was encouraged, both vocal and physically, with Archie joining in, and a wide repertoire of songs brought back memories of part forgotten classics, with a surprising number of people knowing the lyrics.
The Singing Waiters were a great act, as Paul had promised last year, and received a deserved ovation.
To those who attended on Saturday night, I wanted to say thank you for making it such a memorable and fun evening.
For those members who were unable to attend, you definitely missed something! To watch everyone present standing up and singing along to “Sweet Caroline” was something to behold, and as for a certain member’s activities with the performers, well........
It was a night to – again – be inordinately proud of the club, and to do something really different. My special thanks to Colin and his staff for working so hard and giving us a night to remember.
