THE ROTARY CLUB OF CHELTENHAM NORTH

MEETING NOTES FOR THURSDAY 4th MAY 2017

 

Our well attended meeting welcomed six members from the Rotary Club of North Cotswolds.  They were Ed Alexander, Oliver Balding, Geoff Williams, Ernie Rumsey, David Prout and Will Malings.

Our speaker was Dr. Tim Brain, former Chief Constable for Gloucestershire.  David Mace was Speaker Host.

 

NIMBUS VISIT

Sally advised members that due to popular demand she was organising a second visit to Nimbus on 5th September.  If you haven’t signed up and would like to join this trip please contact Sally as soon as possible.

 

GARDEN PARTIES IN AID OF SOLARAID

Peter and Janet will be hosting two garden parties for 20, one on Sunday 9th July and one on Sunday 6th August.  A board was circulated at the meeting.  If you weren’t able to sign up last night and would like to attend please contact Janet as soon as possible.

 

PAUL HARRIS FELLOWS

President Peter presented John Cantrill and Richard Purdon with Paul Harris awards.

 

JUNIOR VICE PRESIDENT

President Peter announced that Beth had agreed to stand as Junior Vice President.  This news was greeted with applause from the members attending the meeting.

 

STROKE AWARENESS

Geoff Fox thanked his small team of volunteers for their efforts on Saturday afternoon.  91 people had their blood pressure taken with 20 advised to seek further medical advice, three of whom had extremely high results.  The test were free however £40 was donated that afternoon.

 

ROGER AND PADDY’S EVENT FOR LINC

Although not a Rotary event Roger thanked those members who supported the concert.  61 people attended and £750.64 was raised for LINC.

 

HOLST MUSEUM VISIT

David Rust and Sally were thanked for organising this very enjoyable visit.

 

PARTNER’S MEETING  29th JUNE

This is being held at Dumbleton Hall Hotel.

 

CHANGEOVER MEETING – 6th JULY

The changeover meeting is being held at The Everyman Theatre when Mr. Mark Goucher, the new chief executive of the Theatre, will be our speaker. An email with menu selection details will be circulated in due course.

 

VISITS TO OTHER CLUBS

Our District Governor Richard has been out and about., since 21st March he has made 15 visits.

These include visits to North Cotswold, Rotary GB&I Planning Meeting AGM, Tewkesbury, Chris Evans presentation at the Butterfly Garden, Chipping Sodbury, Kingswood, Newent, Rotary GB&I Conference,

AG meeting on membership, Winchcombe, another AG meeting on membership, Worcester Night, Worcester Wychavon and a trip to the House of Lords for presentation to Chris Evans .  Phew!

 

NEXT MEETING

Our next meeting will be on 18th May at the New Club.  This will be our AGM and Club Assembly.
