TuT Rotary Bridge Tournament for Princess Alice Hospice
Sun 12th May 2019 at 13.00 - 19.00
Breaking News!!! The Bridge Tournament moved this year and took place at Cobham Rugby Club
The Rotary Club of Twickenham upon Thames has run a Bridge Swiss Teams Competition for over twenty years, initially in aid of the Star & Garter on Richmond Hill, but latterly in aid of the Princess Alice Hospice in Esher. This year 2019, the event moved for the first time to the Cobham Rugby Football Club.
This is a Swiss teams competition with thirty six
boards. Tea and coffee were also available throughout the day, but this year
"breaking news:" there was also a licenced bar! This is a
superb event, much appreciated by all the participants not just for the cards
and games, but for the home made cakes and sandwiches provided by the Rotarians
and their partners.
Three sets of medals (gold, silver, and bronze) plus a bottle of wine were awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd winners. In addition the first winning team received the Dick Muldoon Cup, and the second team the Barry James Cup. Both of these cups are in memory of two Rotarian bridge players who used to take part in the Tournament, and were also past Club Presidents, now sadly deceased.
This year all first three places were won by local teams from Richmond Clubs. The players were:
First place: Marietta Andree, Janet Cahm, Dan O’Farrell, Judi Lawson
Second place: Ned Paul, Maureen Dennison, Neil Tomkin, Christine Tomkin
Third place: Simon Whiteside, Margaret Page, Margaret Grinter, Helen Beattie
The tournament was a
very successful event and much enjoyed by all and the Club would like to thank
everyone who came to take part. A total of £1600 was raised for the
Hospice. If anyone would like to add to this amount to help the good work
of the Home or to give it their time to aid its activities, they are
contactable at West End Lane, Esher KT10 8NA (telephone 01372468811),
