Our International Work
Our International Committee is organised by Stan Taylor and these are the plans, proposed by his committee for the current year.
Over the past few years our Rotary Club has developed a relationship with a community organisation working in rural Uganda.
For the last 3 years we have financed the purchase of Solar Lamps for families with children attending school which allows them to continue school work at home without the need to buy expensive kerosene for lamps.
Child Aid Uganda is committed to improving the opportunities of children in their very underprivileged area of central Uganda. The Charity is working to provide and enhance education to children in the community through financing the cost of school attendance and refurbishment of derelict school buildings. Our Club is hoping to start to support the school refurbishment project during this Rotary year.
Our club has been a regular supporter of both Shelterbox and Aquabox, charities which provide disaster relief to stricken communities and we shall continue that support.
We have also sponsored a pupil through education in Nepal via the Fishtail Project. Our sponsored student is coming to the end of his school time and we are likely to continue sponsorship for further vocational training. Sponsorship of a new pupil is also proposed.
Vocational support is also offered by the funding of a Trade Aid Box which delivers boxes packed with tools to provide individuals and communities in African countries with the means to support themselves and their families.
We will also support Rotary’s long term worldwide effort Polio Plus aimed at the eradication of Polio. We will hold a fundraising event in the spring of 2018 with the proceeds donated directly to the Polio Plus project which will be matched 2 for 1 by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
