2017 Ducks fastest ever!
Sunday was a real day for ducks with the rain drenching the countryside and filling the river in a way that only a well brought up duck would appreciate. The Rotary Club of East Sutherlands annual Charity Duck race had to deal with weather that while difficult was not of hurricane Irma proportions.
At 4 pm as the Memorial Clock struck the hour, the 2000 strong flock took off from Brora Bridge and such was the speed of the water coming down stream, thanks to a big tide and torrential rain the night before, the winning duck knocked almost 60 seconds off the world record for a Brora Duck Race crossing the Harbour finishing line in only 2 minutes and 55 seconds earning its sponsor Catriona Fisher from Glasgow a great £200 reward. 2nd was Isla Robinson from Rogart winning £100 and 3rd was Golspies Margaret Novell winning £50. Other top 10 places went to Alex Hermiston, Fiona Risk, Selkie, Danny Parkin, Cloe Smart, Sheena Manson and Rae Summers from the Rotary Club of Sutherland, Australia.
Thanks to all the generous people of Sutherland who sponsored ducks and helped raise over £1200 for local Youth projects.
