Rotary sends aid to the Caribbean

Cirencester Rotary Club have added their support the relief programme which has been launched for the residents of the Caribbean islands, following the devastation caused by successive hurricanes.

Rotary International works in partnership with “Shelterbox” to provide disaster relief by sending a number of Shelterboxes to the afflicted area, each containing relief tents, stoves, blankets and other essential equipment. Each sturdy green plastic box can meet the immediate needs of up to 10 people and costs £590 (including all packaging and transport).

As Cirencester Rotary President Shaun Gibson explained, “Alongside other Rotary clubs, we make early pledges of funding which then releases pre-prepared Shelterboxes for rapid delivery to disaster areas. This week we pledged £590 and we will continue to monitor the situation to see if more funding should be released. Each box is numbered and can be tracked to reveal when and where it has been deployed.”

Anyone wishing to donate funds to this cause can either do so direct at www. shelterbox.org.uk or via their local Rotary Club.
