October Diary 2017

  A bit of a short jot this month as Jenny and I have been away in Bonnie Scotland. If you are ever near Lanark you must visit and stay in the New Lanark Mill Hotel.

  A few of us attended a Fireside Chat at KBJ and Judy’s house on the 28 September and what an interesting evening it was. I highly recommend you give it a go if there is another. Many thanks Keith & Judy for being such splendid hosts, a fine evening of chats, food and liquid refreshment. Many of the subjects raised at that evening were the basis of our Forum Meeting which went very well and raised some interesting thoughts about our Club.

  The weekend of 30 September to 1 October saw us doing our bit for the various disasters around the world namely a collection at Tesco. Grateful thanks to all who volunteered and I was delighted to announce to our District and Club that we raised in excess of £555. It was later agreed at our business meeting to increase this to afford another Shelter Box.

  Our joint Community Tea event went very well and thanks to Sheila for organising it with Casterbridge Rotary Club and for the volunteer drivers. Unfortunately I had to leave early as I had another engagement. 

  I had the enormous privilege in inducting Elizabeth hardy as our newest member at our 17 October meeting. Elizabeth was introduced by her sponsor, Sarah, and Gary and KBJ took various parts in the ceremony and a warm welcome was given to Elizabeth in our usual Rotarian way.

  On 29th October, I attended a presentation event by the organisers of the Southwell VillageFayre, who presented us with a £100 cheque towards the cost of our sleigh repairs, in thanks for our assistance with  

marshalling their event.
