Overgate Hospice - report by Rtn Beverley Carter
Speaker is Harriet Eames - Community Fundraiser from Overgate Hospice.
Set up 36 years ago. It currently has 12 beds for long term patients plus operates a day care facility.
The facility costs over £6,800/day to operate. £3.6 million a year is needed to enable the hospice to function.
Annual events include a midnight walk, a mountain bike challenge and a 5 or 10k walk. In order for these events to happen volunteers are always needed to Marshall those who participate and their help is much appreciated.
Rotary club members across the borough play a vital part with the marshalling and assist in fundraising at their own events such as hosting “pig race” nights or quiz nights. The rotary club of Halifax Calder co-ordinate a spooktacular event at Halloween and have donated significant sums of money to the hospice.
