Toast to Rabbie

.

On Friday 26 January members of Royal Dornoch Golf Club and The Rotary Club of East Sutherland gathered at RDGC clubhouse to celebrate a Burn’s Supper, hosted by RDGC Captain Alan Ramsay.  The evening started with some delightful dancing performed by pupils from Dornoch Primary School.  The arrival of the Haggis, piped in by Gillian Sutherland, was followed by an address with true deference and energy by Alisdair Miller.  Later Alisdair delivered The Immortal Memory, in which he not only educated all with deep insight regarding the great poet, but was able to reflect on his lasting influence, whilst surmising how he would have reacted to some of today’s events Worldwide.  After enjoying a traditional and tasty Burn’s meal, excellently produced by the kitchen and catering staff of the Club, Kisha Black delivered a brilliantly rousing and dramatic rendition of Tam O’Shanter.  A musical break featuring the pipes of Gillian, plus the mellow voice of David Munro, which preceded the Toast to the Lassies, proposed with great aplomb and humour by Alistair Risk.  The Reply was made by Beth Christie, making her debut as a Burn’s Supper speaker and judging by this performance she will not be short of invitations in the future!  Finally, the Vote of Thanks was made by Roger Boyce, Vice-President of RCoES.  A raffle was held, which due to the generosity of the guests raised nearly £300 for Wateraid.  As a first joint, social event between the two clubs it was judged a most enjoyable and successful evening, something which hopefully can be built on in the future.
