The prize winners

In January Rotary Club of East Sutherland held their inaugural Primary Schools’ Writing Competition.  P6/7 pupils were asked to write a story of 100 words in length, plus or minus 10% with the title “Storm”.  Four local schools, Brora, Dornoch, Helmsdale and Rogart sent in a total of 54 entries.  The judges, Maggie Hope of Dornoch Bookshop, local author Iain Fraser and Roger Boyce of RCoES very much enjoyed reading the stories.  Eventually, after a lengthy discussion they placed Rosie Milligan of Dornoch as the winner, Poppy Armstrong of Rogart second and Ellie Kay of Brora third.  Each received a Parker pen set, kindly donated by Dornoch Bookshop, a certificate and a laminated, typed copy of their story, with the original hand-written copy on the back.  Additionally, there was a “winner” and "runner-up" in each school who received a £15 or £10 book token to be spent at Dornoch Bookshop. (The three overall prize-winners were not allowed to win two prizes.).  The judges were highly impressed with the quality of all the entries and felt the children could be very proud of their efforts.
