On Wednesday, 27th June, Rotary Club of East Sutherland held their annual Handover Meeting, marking the end of the Rotary Year 2017-’18. It was a busy evening, that started with a putting competition on the putting green at RDGC, to whom we are grateful for allowing us it's use.
The first action of the evening was to present ESRA with a cheque for £3000, the money being part of that raised by this year’s Classic Car Tour. Pictured is RCoES President John McMurray handing the cheque to ESRA Chairman Anthony Hope. Accepting the cheque, Anthony informed the meeting that the money would be most valuable as ESRA desperately needed to improve the facilities at their Dornoch base.
President John was then able to make a further presentation, this time to RCoES member Rob Pope. He received a Paul Harris Award recognising his huge contribution to Rotary. Rob was described as a “Mr Reliable”. Without any fuss he always makes himself available to help out in any capacity required.
The final action of the evening involved President John handing over the reins of RCoES to the President for 2018-’19, Roger Boyce. John reflected of a successful year for RCoES in which they have supported the following charities; RNLI, ESRA, End Polio Now, Watered, Aquabox, Shelterbox, Amazon Medical Project, Highland Hospice, Combat Stress, Cancer Research, Ross-shire MS Society. It has also worked to help the local communities supporting the refurbishment of the Ferrycroft Maze and in schools with the vibrant Rotakids clubs in six primary schools and the Interact Clubs at Dornoch Academy and Golspie High. It held a Primary Schools’ Writing Competiiotn, a Primary School’s Quiz, a charity Duck Race and also organised charity bag-packing at local supermarkets. RCoES would not be able to achieve so much without the contribution in time and energy of, not just its members, but all the people who support us, to whom we are most grateful.
Incoming President Roger thanked John for all his efforts as President and expressed the hope that 2018-’19 would be as successful.
