Dennis Brock--(100yrs old) Chief Bell Ringer St Marys Church Sunbury--- Speaker "My memory of being a POW in Germany"

Show related pages Dennis Brock was our speaker this week who is a remarkable gentleman who at the grand age of 100, is still regularly ringing the bells of St Mary's Church in Sunbury.  Dennis gave us a very vivid account of his time as a prisoner of war in Germany during WW2, without the use of any notes.  His talk was truly fascinating and enthralling and he also brought with him some interesting items to show us: for example a tin of "iron ration" which is survival food given to the soldiers in the way, which is still as good as new! It was made by Bovril Ltd and smells like a combination of Bovril and chocolate. He also brought his 100th birthday card from the Queen. Thank you Dennis, you were truly wonderful.
