Visit to Rotary Club of Linlithgow Grange

Mon, Nov 19th 2018 at 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Members will visit the Rotary Club of Linlithgow Grange, at Linlithgow Golf Club, Braehead, Linlithgow, EH49 6EL, 18.30 for 19.00. R.Y.L.A. participant, Betthany Brown, will talk on her experiences

Five members, Callan Dick, Des Donnelly, Bill McCallum, Jim Peat and Willie Talbot made the journey to Linlithgow Golf Club to visit the Rotary Club of Linlithgow Grange.

Travelling in one car, we had some difficulty in actually finding the venue, even with satnav! After a couple of U/three point turns, we arrived safely. The usual greetings were exchanged, an excellent evening of good food and hospitality was enjoyed by all.

It was R.Y.L.A. report back night at Linlithgow Grange and their Rylarian, Betthany Brown, was accompanied by her mum, dad and papa, together with Mr Dougan, Head Teacher of Bo’ness Academy, and Miss McIntyre, her PE/dance teacher. Betthany, who is a real character, gave a superb address, with confidence and humour, going into her background, admitting that she had been a “wee toe rag” in her early years at Bo’ness, and expressing how grateful she was to Linlithgow Grange Club for the opportunity to attend R.Y.L.A. and saying that the week of activities and leadership training had changed her life. Her PowerPoint presentation was excellent, showing the main elements of the R.Y.L.A. week and Betthany’s love of the ‘selfie’.

The evening ended with Mr Dougan thanking the Rotary Club for their support, both with R.Y.L.A.  and their, recently formed, Interact Club. He confirmed Betthany’s description of her early behaviour at school but went on to praise the way that she had made some great decisions to become a role model for younger pupils. She was selected to represent the school in a discussion group with inspectors for Education Scotland during their recent visit. Mr Dougan said that the inspectors had praised Betthany’s leadership qualities in encouraging younger pupils to fully participate in the meeting and he went on to say that he was extremely pound of all that she had achieved in recent times.

Betthany is, without doubt, an outstanding example of what R.Y.L.A. means to the young people whose lives are touched by the experience.
