Nearly £5,000 donated by Rotary to community projects

Llandudno Rotary summarises the projects supported during 2018

Llandudno Rotary supporting local causes

The Rotary year runs from July to June and so one item of business at a recent meeting was to receive the accounts for the year to 30 June 2018.

The Club Fund receives the members’ subscriptions (£100 a year per member) and pays for the Club’s administration and our share of running Rotary world wide.

This then means that 100% of the Club’s Charity account proceeds can go to the various good causes that members vote on to support.

In the year just gone Llandudno Rotary received a total of almost £6,000 from such sources as:-

- £2,817 street collections at the May Extravaganza, the November Fireworks Display and the Christmas Snowman collection in Mostyn Street

- £2,100 donations from generous individuals and organisations

- £500 grant from Rotary Foundation

and the balance came from a member’s sponsored walk and some  minor receipts.

Llandudno Rotary used this to fund donations to local causes, including -

£1600 – Dyffryn School Autistic Unit

£300 – Ty Gobaith Childrens Hospice

£800 – Llandudno Youth Music Theatre

£300 – Hope Restored

£200 - Mountain Rescue

£131 to fund a day out for Hospice out-patients

£120 to fund presents of hyacinths to local people living alone

£115 – two minor individual causes

And, looking further afield, donations included

£590 to send Shelter Boxes containing emergency materials to disaster areas

£100 to provide specially made “shoeboxes” for members to donate toys to Eastern Europe

£300 to support a visiting team of Australian students

£190 to promote the Rotary campaign to end polio worldwide

The balance rolls over to be used for more good causes in the current year.

All in all, a busy year.
