                                                    BULLETIN JANUARY 2019

Happy New Year to you all – may it be a healthy and prosperous 2019.

Spare a moment to remember the 3 Rotarians from our club who have passed away in 2018: John Parr; Roger Champness and Trevor Allanson.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Janet Keenan and her family regarding the death of Peter on 2 January 2019.

Christmas Meal

The Club Christmas Meal was held at Lilleybrook Golf Club on Thursday 8 December with a record 69 people attending. Entertainment was provided by saxophonist Lydia Kenny – Rotary Young Musician of the Year – accompanied on the keyboard by her father, retired GP, Damian Kenny. The bottle raffle for shelterbox raised £295 – thank you all for your generosity in bringing a bottle and purchasing raffle tickets.

Annual Carol Concert

The annual carol concert was held on Tuesday 18 December in the Princess Hall at Cheltenham Ladies College. Over 500 tickets were sold and the event ran like clockwork. Paddy Grimshaw was a wonderful compere. Many congratulations and thanks to Geoff and Margaret Craven and to President Beth who oversaw everything. VIPs included the Mayor, Lord Henry and Lady Carolyn Elwes, Michael and Elizabeth Jones (New Club) and Nick Chivers (Knight Frank).

As always, the children of Leckhampton School stole the show, the Cheltenham Silver Band proved very popular as did the voices of the Innsworth Military Wives Choir. Our soloist Danielle Smithson was in good voice and her lovely rich tones thrilled us with the opening verse of Once in Royal David’s City…..and with her solos.

Final figures are not ready yet but the event will have raised £5,000 for local and Rotary Charities.
