Zoom Fellowship

Reception - George McIntosh

Joint Winner

At the Zoom meeting of the Club on 2nd June, 28 members joined a trial Rotary Fellowship Meeting, designed to provide members with fun and fellowship rather than serious Rotary business. This shorter meeting started with our "Happy Pound" where members can talk about something which recently made them happy and for doing so, donate £1 to club funds. As Lockdown not all fun, the normal rules were relaxed to allow for "Unhappy Pounds", mainly to permit some golfing members to complain that their return to St Andrews golf had not always been successful! We then moved on to hear about fun family garden meetings, archery bullseyes and less than successful family hairdressing! As part of the Club's Lockdown programme, members have been donating the savings made from not having the usual Club  meal costs to a Lockdown Charity Fund, and a recent Lockdown photography competition attracted 57 entries, with  2 winners judged on their Lockdown theme, photo quality, humour and interest. Finally, as another fellowship trial, for 10 mins, members were randomly placed in Breakout Groups of 4 to enjoy each other’s chat and company, not feasible in full Zoom meeting. Afterwards, it was agreed that the Breakouts were very successful and helped to replace the informal chat at normal Rotary meetings. It is intended to continue with all these new Lockdown fellowship ideas, as move in July to next Rotary Year, with regular Zoom Fellowship Meetings along with new Club programme. After what was agreed to have been fun and successful Zoom meeting, President John Fernie closed meeting with Zoom “virtual” Rotary toast.
