November 2021 : Presidents Diary
On 9 November we were joined by Rocca Holly-Nambi from the B-Side Festival. We heard that this year’s B-Side Festival was a great success, particularly the parade and various artworks displayed around the island. Rocca thanked our members for marshalling at the event during the road closures – something Rotary are always happy to do. We are all looking forward to B-Side 2022 and to working with Rocca and her team to make it even better next year.
We laid wreaths at the War Memorial and the America Memorial on Remembrance Sunday. Both events were well attended.
Janet arranged one of her magnificent coach trips to Bath on 13 November. Bath is so lovely at any time of year, but in the run up to Christmas it was especially magical. We enjoyed afternoon tea at the Pump Room, met up with friends and of course did LOTS of shopping. A great day was had by all AND we had a raffle! A grand total of £635 was raised for our Nepal fund. Well done Janet J
At this time of year our members are busy preparing for our Christmas events starting with the lighting up of the trees around the island. This initiative is led by Portland Town Council who provided us with battery operated lights. A small but perfectly formed team of Rotary volunteers decorated 20 trees around Easton Gardens, Southwell, Avalanche, Haylands and Greenways. We hope these bring as much joy to the community as we felt when we were decorating the trees.
On 4th December Santa and his team of willing helpers will be supporting the Easton Childrens Christmas Party .
Santa and his lovely Elves will be on their sleigh at the Easton Sparkle on 10 December, so please come and see us – we will be adjacent to the Community 2000 Hall.
On 11th and 18th December our Elves will be holding our annual Teddy Tombola at Tesco, Easton from 10am to 4pm. Look out for Santa who will be arriving at 2pm on both days! We look forward to seeing you there.
Santa and his Elves will be touring the island on the sleigh on 15, 16, 22 and possibly 23 December, weather permitting, This is a great opportunity for little ones to see Santa and have their photo taken next to the sleigh. Look out for updates on Facebook and here on our Rotary website.
As this is such a busy time of year for Santa and the Elves we are also offering video calls for children and their parents or grandparents, The cost is £3 and goes towards the rotary charities. Please call Chrissie on 01305 822231 .
And finally on Christmas morning Santa will be delivering extra special presents. Presents (not too large) should be wrapped, have the name and address of the recipient clearly written on the outside and dropped off at either Hull Gregson and Hull or the Paper Shop Fortuneswell before 12 noon on Thursday 23 December.
We send warmest wishes to all our friends on the island for a happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year.
