Abbeyfield Garden Project 2021

Community Project

In 2021, during the Covid pandemic, we approached the Manager at Abbeyfield House Care Home to suggest that we help landscape an area at the back of the Care Home. This would allow residents and their visitors an attractive space outside to relax and enjoy the sunshine, and provide a cheerful view from the residents lounge. The Manager asked for one thing - colour!

The area was populated with wooden planters, stained in vibrant colours, all made by Rotarians and their families. There were also hanging baskets. These were all then planted up with a variety of attractive annuals, perennials and climbers, herbs with aromatic leaves, a small fruit bush and even some rhubarb for the kitchen to use. Most of these plants were donated by members of the club.

In Winter 2021 these planters, and others tubs outside around the House, were topped up with bright primroses to keep the colour theme going. In Spring 2022, we’ll refresh the planting for the coming year.
