June 2022 Bake-off Competition

The bake off competition returns

The winning cake

Due to pressures on the schools catching up after a couple of very disruptive years, the entry for the bake-off competition was lower than usual with 6 entrants. But the standard was as good as ever. Stewarts of Tayside donated the strawberries and the cakes were judged by Neil Mugg (the former Pastry Chef at Gleneagles and now part time lecturer at Perth College) and our own Master Baker Bill Montgomery. There were2 hours allocated for preparation before the judging. The theme was “A Taste of Perthshire”and the results were exceptional - so it was a hard task to determine the best.

The winner, seen here with the judges, was Anna Black from Perth High School. Her cake - shown above - looked, and tasted, absolutely delicious. The runners up were Eva Whyte from Perth Academy and Sophie Murray from Perth High School – their cakes are below. All entrants received a gift from the college and a piping nozzle set from the Rotary Club. The runners-up also got a cake cutter and the winner received a £40 gift token
