On 16th February our own member Malcolm Watkins, began his talk by asking members what words described their life experience. There were many responses using words like interesting, happy, hectic, busy. Malcolm proceeded to describe his early years - born in Stanley Street, Carnforth into a family of 5 children - he being the youngest boy. His earliest ambition was to be an ice cream seller. We heard he went to the Grammar school but the family could not afford for him to go to university. Instead on leaving school he joined GPO Telephones as a Clerical Officer before moving to the technical side in GPO Traffic involved in planning exchanges. Malcolm moved around the UK progressing through many career moves into managerial posts with British Telecom, involving training and public relations.
