Update : Peter & Ian competed this fundraiser on 31 May 2023 !
Two members of Brampton & Longtown Rotary have arranged their own fundraising activity and we are delighted to be one of the recipients of some of the funds. They are planning to walk 261 miles to raise funds for Jigsaw Childrens Hospice, The Green Door Centre Brampton Youth Hub, and other local Charities and Good Causes supported by Rotary.
During May 2023 they will be walking the West Highland Way, the Cumbria Way and the Hadrian’s Wall Path, a total of 261 miles. The three Long Distance Footpaths are all recognised National Trails.
Peter Sedgwick and Ian Forth will be joined on some of the walks by family and friends who will also be supporting them along the way.
Ian Forth says "Having completed many charity cycling challenges over the past decade, seeing thousands of miles of countryside at a slower pace than driving, walking allows an even slower and closer look at nature. This is a new challenge and another opportunity to raise money for worthy causes. Both the main charities we are raising funds for offer amazing support to our local area at times of great need and we want to give back and, in our way, say thank you."
The pair undertook a similar challenge in 2021 when they completed ‘300 miles in the month of May,’ walking around Brampton and other local villages raising funds for another local charity. This year they are hoping to raise £2,000, and Jigsaw and Green Door will each receive a third of the funds raised with the remainder going to other local charities and good causes supported by Rotary.
Peter Sedgwick says "we enjoyed our previous challenge and decided we would undertake a tougher one this year. Obviously, we are hoping for some good weather along with way. We have been actively training over the past few months, as far as our busy diaries allow!"
