Membership and Public Image Report to 2023 AGM

As delivered by convenor Douglas Scott

We currently have 30 members and 4 honorary members. Of the 30 members, 7 do not attend and 2 more are very infrequent attenders. So we have 21 members who we could say have intentions to attend and given holidays and other commitments, we have been lucky to exceed 60% of that number on several occasions. Of course that also narrows our pool of participants when it comes to projects and events, so as we have acknowledged for several years now we need to ask more people to join the Rotary Club of West Fife.

Attempts to interest new members have been through the Crossford Chronicle, our website and by having a presence in the Dunfermline Press. Noticeboards in Crossford, Culross, Saline and Steelend have carried an invitation to find out more about the club.

We have also agreed during this Rotary year a form of associate membership that might encourage potential members to get a taste of Rotary before committing to membership.

When the District Governor Ken McLennan addressed the club back in April he said “No membership no public image, no public image no membership. Neither of those and this fantastic Foundation will flounder.”

Public image has been enhanced by the Youth competitions that have run including the Primary School Quiz. The exhibition of Youth Competition entries at Abbot House attracted a large number of visitors and profiled the club in a very positive manner.

Two years ago we had 306 followers on Facebook this time last year we had 509 and now we have 644. In the same timescale we had 160 followers on Twitter, 178 this time last year and we now have 178. We started with 123 on Instagram, last year we had 186 and now we have 198.

Our website has been updated regularly and provides news and information for both members and interested parties. Our youth competitions ranked high on search engines due to the frequent updating of the website and actually providing the information that users actually want to find.
