Face to Face Interview

Tue, Aug 8th 2023 at 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

David Wiltshire - Founder Member - The Rotary Club of Bedford Castle

David, a founder member of the Rotary Club of Bedford Castle, second President of the Club 1983/84 and now an Honorary Member, was interviewed by member David Fletcher. During the interview photographs of early members, programmes and events were circulated.

David talked about his early life in Cheltenham, his qualification as a dental surgeon from University College Hospital, London, and his 5 years National Service as a dental officer in Army hospitals in Aden and Singapore. He enjoyed his time in the Army and completed his service with the rank of Major. He moved to Bedford In 1965 to work as an NHS dentist and enjoyed many family holidays in North Norfolk.

He joined Rotary in 1982 and has valued the chance to meet and befriend people with different jobs and interests. He considers the atmosphere in our club today is as welcoming and enjoyable as it was in the early days.

A major part of the interview dealt with the fact, not well known to members, that he is the author of 14 books published between 1978 and 2017 some under the name of John Bedford. His novel Nightmare Man was adapted by BBC television as a 4 part series. Although he has now ceased writing, his books have recently been selling well by Kindle in the United States.

A very interesting evening and much enjoyed by Club Members

Rotarian William Riding
