Rye and Winchelsea Rotary Charity Fun Cycle Ride

Members of Bexhill Rotary Club made their way to Rye to participate in the annual Rye and Winchelsea Rotary Fun Cycle Ride. There were several categories and President James, supported by several more energetic members cycled the full 100Km to build up miles for his Challenge of 2,500 miles this Rotary Year. The rest of us opted for the intermediate ride of 50Km and completed this is a fairly leisurely fashion.

Starting from the station car park we set off to Camber across the fields and then cycled along the sea wall enjoying views over the English Channel. Then we took to the path skirting the firing range arriving at Lydd in good time to have a coffee break at the local general store. I found the next part of the ride the most pleasant as we wound our way along picturesque Kent country lanes towards a refreshment stop at Brooklands where we were given bananas, biscuits and a welcome drink of orange squash. On again along winding lanes between freshly ploughed fields and past innumerable sheep to Appledore where we fortified ourselves to refreshment at the local pub before the long slog of the Military Road back to Rye.

All in all a very enjoyable day when we also raised funds for Rye and Winchelsea’s charities and built ourselves up for the Bexhill Rotary Club statice Cycle Challenge on Saturday 23rd September at Tesco’s Ravenside in aid of Prostate Cancer UK.
