A Boat for Beacon View Academy

The Club was visited by Sally Hodgson, the head teacher of Beacon View Academy in February 2024 and among the matters discussed was the success the school has in teaching pupils to grow their own food in planters. She remarked that few of them were able to use the harbour for recreation and that an old unseaworthy boat might usefully be re-purposed as another planting bed for fruit and vegetable growing.

The Club immediately put a word around various sailing groups and eventually managed to source a vessel (an old 14’ Fletcher speedboat) free of charge locally via Facebook Marketplace. With the help of a parent’s car transporter and a few willing hands it was moved to a new location at the school.

President Nick Leaver said “Fareham Meon Rotary is delighted to have been able to provide practical help to Beacon View Academy and looks forward to assisting in future projects”.
