The Sandwich Concert Band came to the Queens Road
Baptist Church Broadstairs, on Sunday 28th April and provided a
truly excellent concert of light music for an appreciative audience of just
under 150. The excellent programme ranged from Out of Africa to the Sound of
Music with some light classical thrown in and concluded with Jerusalem and an enthusiastic
National Anthem.
We were pleased to welcome Mr and Mrs Paul Carter, the Mayor and Mayoress of Sandwich plus a party of Ukrainians. To add to this, it was a great delight to welcome back Rotarians Rex Morley and James Pacey who through no fault of their own have been absent for too long.
The purpose of the event was to raise funds for the Club’s Cinderella Fund which helps mainly the young people of Thanet to “Go to the Ball “. The very generous audience were inspired by Past President Jim Nicholson to raise £1000 for this excellent cause by ticket purchase, raffle, and donations. We greatly appreciate the efforts of the organising team of Thanet Rotarians, the Baptist Church and of course The Sandwich Concert Band without whom it would not have succeeded.
