On 2nd February 2005 Lorna Hayes of the MAGPAS Community First Responders scheme received a cheque for £2,683 from Soham Staploe Rotary Club president Stuart Cavanagh.

The money was raised by the club on their street collections running up to Christmas in Soham High Street and at Budgens.  The cheque means that the scheme in Soham has reached its target of £5,000 needed for initial training and equipment.

Community First Responders are local volunteers who agrees to undertake training in order to be able to provide life saving treatment to those people within the local community who are critically injured or ill in the few minutes prior to the arrival of an ambulance, possibly saving their lives.  In the last 12 months, MAGPAS Community First Responders in Cambridgeshire have responded to more than 1,200 calls.
