This annual, national Rotary music competition for solo instrumentalists and singers starts with a preliminary competition 2nd February 2013 (and District competition 23Feb13)at the Leys School, Cambridge - organised by the Cambridge South Rotary Club.

The Cambridge area competition was held on Sat 2 Feb 2013 in the Recital Hall, The Leys School, Trumpington Road, Cambridge, CB2 7AD, parking on-site.

We are delighted with the enthusiastic response that we have had from talented young people 8 - 18years old from the local area.

The Winners Isobel and Alexander flanked by Runners-up Nelson (left) and Rory - Congratulations!

The hard fought competition attracted 21 talented young people who played a wide variety of instruments and musical pieces - including piano, recorder, clarinet, cello, violin, flute and voice. The Judges found it very difficult to decide on who to award the prizes to and were very impressed by the standards in all three age groups.

Everyone was welcome to come and listen to the competition to encourage and enjoy the high standard of music involved..

Candidates were allocated to one of 3 sessions between 3.00 and 10.00pm approximately :

  • 3.30pm   under 13 year olds
  • 5.30pm   13 & 14 year olds
  • 7.30pm   over 14 year olds

The age group winners were announced at the end of each session, then the overall competition winners (and District finalists) were announced and certificates and prizes presented at the end of the evening, at around 9.30pm.

Tickets were available on the door (or reserved beforehand), with no fee required from the competitors. Doors opened at 3.00pm.

Refreshments available.
