Canal Trip with the Demetia Cafe

Thu, May 12th 2016 at 11:00 am - 4:00 pm

The latest in our series of canal boad trips with various groups in and arounf Stockport.

This trip was organised for a group of people with dementia and their carers, who attend the Dementia Friendly drop in centre supported by the Rotary Club of Stockport Lamplighter. The Dementia Cafe meets at Heaton Moor United Church each Friday afternoon. Travelling with the group were Rotarian Joan Ebbrell and President Richard Hardman. The trip was on the Mary Sunley barge which is moored at Lord Vernon Wharf, Poynton canal and we sailed down past Marple and back in a four hour trip.

The  trip took place on Thursday May 12th. It was a beautiful warm, sunny day with a blue sky. Away from the maddening traffic the tranquillity of the canal was much appreciated by all. They enjoyed the wild life, baby ducks, moorhens, occasional heron and geese. There were also new born lambs in the fields as we passed.

A  stop was made at Marple and pre-orded fish and chips for all was collected by Richard for a very welcome lunch. Tea and coffee was provided on board.
