Iftar with South Manchester Muslim Community Association

We shared the evening meal with Muslims at their Mosque.

Nine members of the club joined the South Manchester Muslim Community Association to take part in an Iftar, the meal eaten by Muslims after sunset following a day of fasting. Along with many other visitors, we enjoyed a talk about the month of Ramadan, had a guided tour of the mosque and shared the evening meal with the Muslim community.

This was part of a Manchester wide initiative called TasteRamadan ( www.TasteRamadan.co.uk ), where nine different mosques around the area opened their doors to the local community.

We were made to feel extremely welcome, and we certainly enjoyed the food. The tables were alive with chatter as people wanted to know who we were and to tell us about themselves. It was wonderful to learn not only about Islam, but also about the marvellous charity work that this group is doing. I am sure there is scope for us to work together in some way, to promote better understanding, and for the benefit of the community as a whole.
