19/06/25 Carnforth Rotarian, Anthony Chick, gave a presentation about our 5 Rotakids clubs. We started our first one at Arkholme Primary School in 2012 and now also have ROtakids in Christ Church Carnforth, Carnforth Community, Holme, Slyne-with-Hest and St John's Ellel which is joint with Lancaster Loyne.
We are involved in many activities with the groups, including introducing Design Technology competitions, provided football strips, a Peace Pole at Arkholme, Litter Picking, making and erecting bird boxes, planting Purple crocus bulbs for the End Polio Now Campaign and collecting for the local food bank.
With full support from school staff, we have encouraged the Rotakids to raise funds for International Projects such as Mary's Meals, Lend with Care and Toilet twinning in Ethiopia. They have also collected ring pulls for the Purple Community Fund who make them into handbags etc.
District 1190 has put on 10 Rotakids COnferences, where approximately 130 Rotakids from 30 schools have taken part in a variety of workshops including bee keeping, music and CPR.
Mrs Hudd, Headteacher of Carnforth Community spoke of how Rotakids clubs give the children valuable experience in interacting with and learning about their local communities. This is in addition to learning more about the wider world, established charities and how committees work.
