Taunton Rotary Club announces support for a number of charities to mark the end of the Rotary Year

Taunton Rotary Club benefits a range of good causes

Speaking at the annual handover meeting, Tracey Khodabandehloo, retiring President of Taunton Rotary Club, announced a generous range of donations to charities and projects at home and abroad.

£22,000 had been raised during the year for Rotary-supported charities mainly through the efforts of club member Mike Hellings who had arranged, through the goodwill of Viridor, the use of their car park for those attending Cricket Matches at the County Ground.  This bounty has been distributed to a number of good causes including the Somerset-based charity, 'School in a Bag' whose CEO, Luke Simon, was present to receive a cheque for £4,000. He explained that this will provide educational resources for 200 refugee children in the middle east, expanding their support from 59 to 60 countries.

The club has added £3,000 to a generous bequest by a former member and this will provide seed-corn funding for various youth initiatives in the local area.  £1,000 has recently been handed to the Neroche Woodlanders and £5,000 will be donated to Musgrove Park Hospital League of Friends. A contingency sum is retained to enable members to respond to ad hoc requests for help in the year ahead.

President Tracey also spoke about

the Youth Enterprise Project with the Year 5's at Wellington School and was pleased to report that the young students had raised £980 for the Bristol Children's Hospital
