To coincide with the 80th Anniversary of VE Day, the President, Secretary, and Youth Lead of the Rotary Club of Weston-super-Mare visited 290 Squadron Air Training Corps at their local Headquarters. This branch of the Royal Air Force Air Cadets organisation caters to boys and girls in the 12 – 18 age range, promoting teamwork and accepting responsibility. They receive hands-on experience in activities and courses that challenge and develop their skills while giving them insight into military life. Earlier in the year, Weston Rotary had donated funds towards replacing the Squadron’s old computers, so during the visit we were treated to a demonstration of the updated technology, some of which is also currently being utilised at their base in Burnham-on-Sea.
We enjoyed a very warm welcome, were greatly impressed by all that they witnessed during the time spent with the Cadets, particularly by those who are about to join the military as the next generation who will serve King and Country, together with those who aspire to do so and with the adult volunteer staff, many of whom are themselves veterans and give the benefit of their experience and time so freely and willingly.
