We organised a 'Young Chef Competition' at the Hospitality Suite of the Grimsby Institute for six students ( Level 2 & 3 NVQ). They had a limited budget for preparing a seafood dish and dessert and completed in 2 and half hours.
The judges included Rotarians Simon Gamble - a professional chef (and a former student of the college), Melanie McNaulty and President Mike Briggs. The winner was Morgan Robinson who produced a turbot dish and a chocolate mousse. The second was Ruby Osbourne and third was David Clark( 62 years old).
Simon said that the training at the Institute was well recognised in the catering industry.
Each person received a trophy and cash prizes of £100(1st) £50 (2nd)and £25 (3rd) and was presented by President Mike.
There is a National Young Chef competition for 11 to 17 year olds, which will be held in March 2026, and our event was a good starter !
